Elodie connects with a charismatic stranger in a Williamsburg bar and follows him back
to his apartment—what happens next challenges expectations.
Synopsis:
ELODIE’s boyfriend has just broken up with her over the phone. She sits at the reception desk at the Chelsea art gallery where she works sobbing uncontrollably. After a disheartening interaction with an undermining senior colleague, MARIE, Elodie leaves work to meet up with her best friend, OLIVIA, in Williamsburg. As Elodie and Olivia walk down Bedford Avenue, Elodie recounts (through flashback) how she told her boyfriend, SAM, that she had gotten tested for HIV after having unprotected sex with an old friend while Sam was in India for three months. The test results are negative, but Sam summarily breaks up with her. To drown Elodie’s sorrows, the two girls go to a bar, where they meet JULIAN JAGOO, a handsome, charismatic man with a foreign accent that we aren’t quite able to identify. Jagoo introduces them to WILLIAM, a scruffy bartender, who Olivia takes a liking to, and JONAH, a good-natured goof. Jagoo and Elodie flirt and he invites her back to his apartment to look at his artwork. Jagoo, William and Olivia do cocaine together in the bar bathroom. When the bar closes, the group goes back to Jagoo’s apartment, where the party continues. Jagoo takes Elodie into his room to show her his artwork, and turns downs the lights. Olivia, William and Jonah all depart, leaving Elodie and Jagoo totally alone. Just when things are heating up between the two, a sudden, shocking turn of events leaves Elodie alone and speechless, and makes us question our previous understanding of Jagoo’s intentions. |
